Silk Scarves as Christmas Gifts Dec 2010

These are the 11 Silk Scarves I gave for Christmas Dec 2010. Three of them are 35" for my Mom, Mother N Law and a good Friend of my In-Laws. The 2nd 3 scarves are 30" Square for my 2 Sisters and a Cousin (who use to babysit me and my siblings) who's name got picked for me for Christmas Exchange Gifts and the other 5 scarves are 22" for my 5 Nieces, 3 young adults and 2 teenagers. These gifts turned out to be a big hit. Everybody couldn't believe I painted them myself. I got them done in time for Christmas, too.

Zentangle Greeting Card

These 4 designs are the first Zentangle Christmas Greeting Cards I ever made. I went on line and looked up "Avery" website and they have just about everything you can think of that could be printed on a computer printer. They even have free downloads for the type of items you buy from them. I purchased a pack of blank greeting cards (30 cards with envelopes) for under $ 15.00. I drew my designs on a piece of cardstock, scanned them and used the picture manager to set them they way I want to print them, save them on my hard-drive. Open up the free downloaded template, insert your image/ drawing/ clip art and paste it on the blank greeting cards and print as many as you like. Pay close attention how you re-insert the printed card to print your "saying" on the inside fold of your greeting card. Easy to mess up.

Zentangle Greeting Card

The front of the card with the white letters that say happy birthday was unplanned, but it came out nicer than I expected. I had happy birthday written in script, then realized I left the letter "r" out of Birthday. Talk about dissappointed and a feeling of wasted time and materials. Then I took my paint brush, dipped it in my ink well and painted over the entire area you see black and covered the misspelled happy birthday. The ink didn't take long to dry and I pulled out a white Gel Pen and wrote "Happy Birthday, Mommy" on the front of the card. My Mom loves her birthday card. My Mom now understands what Zentangle is and appreciates how beautiful it looks.

I'm planning on designing some greeting cards for Christmas that I can print on the computer on blank greeting cards. I'm planning on a Zentangle Christmas this year.

Zentangle Silk Scarf in Color

This is Silk Scarf after I added color with silk ink dyes. The no-flow solution that you mix with the ink to prevent it from bleeding out of control was a god-send. Gutta would have been good to use too depending on the effect you wanted. That no-flow solution reminded me of thick mucus the way it comes out of the bottle. My Mom was blown away over how nice this scarf turned out. She wants to frame it and hang it on the wall above her flat screen TV. One more gift that became a hit!

Zentangled Silk Scarf

The first photo if the Silk Scarf was taken in a Panaramic View, but to be able to appreciate the entire scarf in view is going on flickr and viewing "Cookie's Crafts" and see the scarf in full view while spreaded on the back-rest of my couch. The other 4 photos are close ups of the zentangles. This scarf is 22" wide x 62" long. Birthday gift to my Mom for her 70th Birthday. The best markers to drawing on silk are "Identi-Pens" manufactured by Sakura. These pens have a double tip. the finer tips ran out of ink quicker than the wider tips on both of my pens, but I like drawing with finer lines when doing some tangle patterns.

When my Husband saw my yellow T-shirt, he was blown away and asked if I do one with a drawing of his electric bass going at an angle and Zentangles all around it leaving the tangle patterns up to me. That made it even funner to do. He asked one thing of me, if I add color to the neck of his bass. This bass actually has blond colored wood, but this was the lightest color fabric paint I can find. Hubby was beside himself when he saw the finished results.

The Yellow T-shirt is my very first one I ever Zentangled. I decided to design a yellow t-shirt for myself first. I used freezer paper ironed on the inside of the shirt in the areas I knew I was going to draw on, turned it right-side out and started drawing. I used a sharpie marker in both a fine and extra fine point. I also found a grey fabric marker to adding shading.

Zentangled Papier Mache Box

I purchased this 4" Box with a lid and painted it white gesso and gave it a day to let dry before I drew zentangles on the sides and top. I used a sharpie paint pen and dip pens. I'm amazed by those dip pens. I haven't played with those since elementary school and collage.

Zentangled Papier Mache Skull

I purchased a papier mache skull from Beverly's Crafts, painted it with white Gesso like I did with the Zentangled Box and drew Zentangles with a sharpie paint pen, dip pen and sharpie markers. The paint pen and dip pen works the best on an items primed with gesso. The sharpie markers don't work as well once you use them on a surface painted with gesso paint.
